The organization operates on a Leadership Line so the current officers will ascend the Leadership Line and continue their service to the organization. 

 

We are therefore seeking volunteers for anyone interest in serving as an At Large Member of the Executive Committee. 

 

These are exciting times to be in the leadership of the organization as we continue to pursue legislative priorities, expanded benefits and membership. While any leadership position involves a commitment of time and energy, we hope to make it as painless and professionally rewarding as possible.

 

Application Process:

The Florida Society of Nephrology is excited to announce Women in Nephrology has endorsed WIN Florida their the 1st State chapter!

FSN hosted a Women in Nephrology Florida Reception at our 56th annual meeting.

We were excited to have Dr. Sharon Moe join us and share her experience as a leading female in nephrology.  

The goal of WIN is to promote professional development for women in nephrology in addition, to advocating education and research relevant to women’s health in our field.

The Florida Society of Nephrology would like to thank all of our members, industry partners, and family that made the 2017 Annual Meeting an overwhelming success. The Delray Beach Marriott provided the venue for our 51st Annual Meeting. There were a number of new initiatives incorporated into this year's program including a Coding & Reimbursement Symposium hosted by the Renal Physicians Association and a Medical Student Scholarship Program launched by the FSN Executive Committee. Our organization continues to grow to meet the needs and expectations of the Nephrology community in Florida.

Reinaldo Rosario, M.D. Elected FSN President 

The FSN would like to congratulate Dr. Reinaldo Rosario for his election as President of the Florida Society of Nephrology for 2017-2019. Dr. Rosario, who practices with Renal Electrolyte and Hypertension Consultants in Fort Lauderdale, has been a dedicated member of the FSN Leadership since 2009. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Oschner Medical Center in Louisiana prior to completing a Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida. 

Dr. Rosario brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the FSN Leadership and the unique perspective of an emerging leader in private practice. During his acceptance speech he outlined a series of priorities to include engaging more young nephrologists throughout the state in an effort to expand our reach and resources. We look forward to continued growth of the organization under his stewardship. 

FSN Highlights the Research Initiatives in our Programs

The Robert Geronemus Fellows Research Competition is our opportunity each year to recognize the Fellows in programs throughout the state and the important research contributions they are making to the profession. The Program Committee felt that this year's applications were some of the best overall research submissions we have reviewed since the launch of the Competition.

Michael Pickering, MD Receives the FSN Lifetime Achievement Award

The FSN also took a moment to recognize one of our leaders with the FSN Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Michael Pickering was recognized for his contributions to the profession and his dedicated service and leadership to the Nephrology Community in Florida. Dr. Pickering was unable to attend the Annual Meeting however his wife, Micky Sue Pickering, was in attendance to accept the award on his behalf.
 
Among his numerous accomplishments Dr. Pickering was one of the founding members of the Florida Society of Nephrology and served as our President from 1973-1975. He was instrumental in creating the Renal Disease Plan for Florida in 1975, and served on the Tampa General Hospital Dialysis and Transplantation Selection Committee from 1974 to 1980.

As you will see in his obituary here, it is with great sadness that we lost Dr. Pickering shortly after the FSN Annual Meeting. Our leadership is extremely greatly to have had the opportunity to recognize his achievements prior to his death. Our thoughts and prayers are with Micky Sue and his family. 

FSN Planting the Seeds for the Next Generation

The FSN was extremely pleased to launch our Nephrology Outreach Program during the 2017 Annual Meeting. Responding to some of the concern with the number of physicians selecting Nephrology as their specialty, the FSN felt we had a role to play in mentoring some future Nephrologists currently training in Florida. The Leadership invested some resources in creating a scholarship program that would enable a number of Medical Students to participate in the Annual Meeting and learn a little more about the specialty and life as a practice Nephrologist. 

We are very pleased to say that the program was an overwhelming success. We were fortunate to have 10 medical students and 3 residents attend the Annual Meeting. All of the students completed a pre-meeting and post-meeting survey to collect their perceptions on the profession. This survey data will be used to report back to the leadership and will guide future development of the program.

Registration is Still Open

We are pleased to announce that the FSN program has been approved for 4.5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. 

In order to earn MOC credits, attendees will need to successfully pass the Knowledge Assessment for each lecture that has been approved for MOC credit. The Assessment will be delivered by the Audience Response System at the conclusion of each talk listed below. Each passed Assessment will earn the attendee credit building up to the maximum of 4.5 MOC credits. The following talks have been approved for MOC credit:
