On July 23, the House version of the Chronic Kidney Disease Improvement in Research and Treatment Act of 2019 (H.R. 3912) was introduced by Reps. John Lewis (D-GA) and Vern Buchanan (R-FL). This bill is on RPA’s 2019 legislative agenda and is being advanced by Kidney Care Partners (KCP), a coalition of patient, professional, provider and industry groups. This legislation promotes the use the of the Medicare kidney disease education (KDE) benefit, adds nephrology health professionals to National Health Service Corps Scholarship and Loan Programs, requires a federal study on utilization of palliative care services in treating individuals with kidney disease, and gua rantees access to Medigap policies to all ESRD beneficiaries, regardless of age. The Senate version of this bill (S. 1676) was introduced by Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) on May 23.
