2018 FMA LegislativeUpdate
With final passage of the state budget the 2018 Florida Legislative Session came to an end. I wanted to provide a quick update on everything that passed and failed. Please note that these are quick summaries and much more will come over the coming weeks as we prepare for implementation of those laws passed especially the opioid bill.
HB 21 Controlled Substances – this has the largest impact on our members. I have created a summary on some key compliance issues for our members. We were able to exempt major trauma from the restrictions and make it clear that Schedule II opioids can be eprescribed in Florida. We were not able to exempt major surgery. The educational component, checking the PDMP, and the registration for a Certificate of Exemption are all areas that will cause additional concern for the membership. This bill (attached) will take additional research and distribution of documentation to help our members prepare for the effective date of July 1, 2018.
Here is a list of those that did not pass:
Bills we wished would have passed:
Bills we are glad did not pass:
Please let me know if you have specific questions on any of these items or those I did not address. We will be putting together a more formal overview for the membership over the coming days.
