On Oct. 16, RPA joined with the AMA and other organized medicine groups in a letter petitioning Congress to enact surprise billing legislation.
The letter calls for patients to be held harmless for any costs above their in-network cost-sharing and urges Congress to ensure that the legislation does not create new imbalances in the private health care marketplace such as artificially low payment rates and anticompetitive harms to consumers and providers of care.
Other issues addressed in the letter include increased insurer accountability and enforceable network adequacy requirements. RPA will continue to monitor surprise billing legislation and will keep membership apprised accordingly.
