On August 4th, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a proposed rule for the 2021 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) and Quality Payment Program (QPP). Comments are due to CMS no later than October 5, 2020.
The AMA plans on sharing its draft comments with the Federation prior to the due date. CMS usually publishes the final rule 60 days prior to its effective date, which would be around November 1. However, due to the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE), the agency is waiving this requirement and replacing it with a 30-day notification timeline. This means the final rule will be effective on January 1, 2021, even though it may not be published until December 1, 2020.
