New AMA datashows nephrology reported one of the lowest rates of physician burnout nationwide in 2025. Just 29.3% of nephrologists reported at least one symptom of burnout, compared with 41.9% of physicians overall.
Nationally, physician burnout continued to decline, down from 43.2% in 2024 and 48.2% in 2023. While burnout remains a challenge across medicine, these findings suggest nephrologists experience comparatively strong professional well-being. Supporting healthy practice environments will remain essential to sustaining the nephrology workforce and ensuring high-quality kidney care.
